Our story begins in the fall of 2007, out of necessity, for breeding chickens. Without being able to source a well constructed building at a reasonable price , Steve Kroeger (Grandpa/Ole McKroeger) set out to design and build a coop using durable and readily available materials. Following spacial requirements from several different poultry organizations , he completed his first coop. The first coop adequately housing 8 hens and 2 cock Delawares. A friend of the family, who was impressed with the design and functionality of the coop asked if he could build one for her. He gave her a fair and honest price.......... And Nina's Hideaway Farm Coops and Small Livestock Housing was off and running.
In the spring of 2017, Ole McKroeger, decided he needed to retire and chill out. Saddened by the fact that his awesome designs were sitting idol, and not wanting to see the progress he had made fall by the wayside. I, Sean Kroeger (The Eldest son), told him to send me the drawings, and I would maybe do something with them at some point.
In comes 2018 and the graduation of Cody Kroeger (The Nephew/ Grandson) from high school and no desire to attend college. After having worked with Grandpa for several years helping him build the coops and small livestock housing during High school, I decided to take the chance and continue my father's ideas and legacy with Cody's future in mind.
So in the spring of 2019, with a somewhat established reputation, and a desire to make something good happen. Cody and I got together and started figuring out how to proceed. With a little insight from Ole McKroeger and friends, we decided to build one small coop and take it to the local poultry and small livestock swap. It received a lot of praise from the attendees which transitioned into the sale of 3 coops.... Giving birth to Kroeger's Critter Keepers and we have not looked back. With projects so far ranging in sizes from a 4'x4' coop all the way up to a 10''X12'' solid coop with a 12'X20' covered run, and our ability to customize builds to our customers needs. We have been having fun building for your pets and livestock and keeping your poultry safe.
Our philosophy is to build a quality product made of recyclable, and reusable materials from using pressure treated lumber, welded hardware cloth, zinc hardware, and a recycled asphalt roofing material ONDURA insuring a durable long lasting product , that is affordable. We take pride in what we do, because we love what we do. With Cody building Coops, Dog Houses and Small Livestock enclosures in Virginia and I building the same in Pennsylvania, we are able to provide a large delivery area for our customers.
